Taking a Pre-Workout + Knowing If You Should

What you need to know about taking a pre-workout and if you should.

Until last month I never included a pre-workout in my fitness routine. In fact, the thought never crossed my mind. I have a yoga background and this isn't exactly a topic we discuss after class or one we covered during teacher training. Last year I started weight lifting at Midwest Strength + Performance with Coach Mike Sell. Our sessions are more weight training- sometimes cardio based but primarily revolved around bench, deadlifts, and squat with other beneficial and purposeful dumbbell exercises. While I still practice yoga, weight lifting has become the primary way I exercise. Over the course of the past 6 months this has also expanded to unconventional training with Coach TJ Lawson, using a tool called the Steel Mace. While these styles of training are different, they all compliment each other and work for my specific goals.

I recently started taking Jungle Shot and those outside of my fitness community have questions. All of the questions I have received are amazing and valid. In fact, I had a majority of the same ones prior to introducing a pre-workout into my life. I’m a firm believer on knowing exactly what I’m putting into and on to my body- what is in the product or food/ drink, how it will affect me, etc. Naturally, I decided to put together this post to answer all of the questions plus a few more. I’d love to share my experience and why I decided to take a pre-workout and how/ why I chose Jungle Shot.

The talk of “pre-workout” buzzed around the gym faster than gossip makes it into tabloids. The hype around Jungle Shot and the ride or die behavior people have towards taking a pre-workout in general had me curious. Never taking a pre-workout before, I was left wondering if this powder substance you mix into water before your gym session really is as magical as people make it to be or as gross and disappointing as others think. Mike is my go to when it comes to all things fitness and health. I like to ask his opinion first because he presents information to me based on his knowledge and experience in a non-bias way. He is the first to provide studies for me to read and determine if whatever it is I inquired about is for me, so of course, I would ask him about this. Many months I asked him if I should include a pre-workout in my routine, I was surprised to learn he and Phil were in the finalization stage of their own pre-workout. It was exciting catching a glimpse of tail end of production/ their launch. The choice to me seemed easy- knowing how meticulous both Mike and Phil are, I knew Jungle Shot would be the pre-workout I would try and my oh my am I glad I did.

Let’s Start With The Basics…

What exactly is a pre-workout?

A pre-workout is a supplement intended for intake prior to working out to boost energy and efficiency.

Who Can Take A Pre-Workout?

Everyone! However, I encourage you to speak with your primary care physician prior to use. If you are pregnant or nursing, please also consult with your doctor. Pre- workouts are not exclusive to athletes and competitive body builders. Pre-workouts are designed for the everyday fitness enthusiast, high school or collegiate athlete, recreational gym attendee, the weekend sports player and power yogis- basically anyone active.

Are Pre- Workouts Safe To Take?

I learned the pre-workouts safe to take do not contain amphetamine derivatives and the safe pre-workouts are made in an NSF GMP manufacturing facility. Jungle shot does not contain amphetamine derivative and it is indeed manufactured in an NSF GMP facility.

What does a pre- workout do for your body?

A pre- workout will aid your body in efficiency. The caffeine in the supplement helps to boost energy. Jungle Shot specifically includes Citrulline Malate. This ingredient is known to increase nitric oxide release and blood flow aka this will help you achieve a “pump”. Another ingredient in Jungle Shot is Tyrosin. This ingredient may increase dopamine. Also included, Alpha GPC may increase acetylcholine, a compound occurring throughout the nervous system, functioning as a neurotransmitter to the brain.

What does a pre-workout do to your body?

A pre-workout primarily energizes the body. You will most likely feel more focused, confident and excited! Most people say when they take a pre- workout their body feels tingly. This is a result of the ingredient, beta alanine.

How will I react taking a pre-workout?

Everyone reacts differently. The majority of people who take a pre-workout feel an energy boost- almost like they’ve consumed a cup or two of coffee. Expect to be incredibly productive.. at least, that’s how it is for me when I take Jungle Shot.

Is there cognitive distortion with taking a pre-workout?

No, there should not be a cognitive distortion. In fact, consuming a pre-workout or at least Jungle Shot, aids in cognitive functions. Jungle Shot uses an ingredient called Creatine monohydrate, which provide high energy phosphate groups- meaning, this aids in cellular stress. Creatine monohydrate is beneficial for skeletal, cardiac and brain health and healing. Creatine monohydrate in particular is beneficial for those who have undergone TBIs (traumatic brain injuries).

Pre- workout consumption frequency is believe it or not, one of the top questions I receive.

Q&A | Jungle Shot

I reached out to Mike for an exact and accurate answer for a few of the questions. The answers in quotation marks are answered directly from the company.

How do you take Jungle Shot?

It is recommended to mix one serving of Jungle Shot into water for consumption.

What does it taste like?

Exactly what the packaging says, sour candy!

How many flavors are there?

As of now Jungle Shot has one flavor.

Will it hurt my stomach?

I’m not sure. This is dependent on the individual. I have a semi-sensitive stomach and the only time it upsets my stomach is if I take it without eating, so I avoid doing so. If you’re worries about it upsetting your stomach, start by taking half or even 1/3 of the suggested serving size and slowly work your way to the full serving size.

How soon should I take it before a workout and how long does it take to kick in?

It is suggested to take Jungle Shot 30-60 minutes prior to a workout. I find 45 minutes is perfect for me.

When does it wear off?

“The half life of caffeine is 6 hours. That means half of it 100 mg will be out of your system 6 hours later. Some effects don’t wear off but aren’t noticed until a few weeks and saturation levels are met (mood, strength, endurance) from the creatine monohydrate and the beta alanine.”

What are the biggest changes you saw?

I noticed my productivity increase. I was able to take less rest time and get through my workouts. While the workouts were still challenging, I felt like my body could keep up with the programing easier. I was more focused and able to power through fatigue.

Have you had a bad reaction to it? Will I?

I’ve only had a bad reaction when I had it on an empty stomach Otherwise I’ve been fine with it. I make sure to drink water before, during and after to keep my body hydrated.

Jungle Shot Pre-Workout For Women

What makes the Jungle Shot pre-workout better than other companies?

Jungle Shot is backed by various case-studies and tedious research. The company spent years studying, refining and perfecting the formulation of the supplement prior to launching. Other pre-workouts are known to mask their ingredients and fabricate what is truly in their pre-workout. Jungle Shot combed through and analyzed reputable research to determine the optimal pre-workout dosage and ingredients to include to elevate performance.

Were you scared to take it?

I wouldn’t say scared, but I was a bit hesitant. I was talking about it with Phil and he low-key freaked me out. He was pretty certain I wouldn’t like it and very specifically told me why. His words floated around my mind but I tried it anyway and fell in love. I’ll give him this- Phil was half right.. I should not have taken it on an empty stomach. He did know me best when it came to that. Otherwise Jungle Shot doesn’t affect me and I make sure to have a few bites of something prior to taking.

Does this replace my protein powder/ drink?

No. They are two separate things and have different targets. Jungle Shot helps the body during the workout while protein powder is recommended for recovery and ensuring the body has enough protein. I usually take my protein after a workout.

Can I take this with my other supplements?

Yes, however it is not recommended with other caffeine supplements.

Is Jungle Shot vegan?

No. The citrulline malate and the l-tyrosine are deprived from animal products.

What do you mix Jungle Shot with?

Water, coconut water, your favorite diet soda. Personally, I have not tried taking Jungle Shot with soda as I’m not a soda person. I’m not a fan of carbonation. However, I know many people who have mixed the two and love it!

How much water do you mix with it?

It is recommended to mix in 10-12 ounces of water.

What is the recommended serving size and amount of Jungle Shot a person should take?

The recommended serving size is one scoop and the recommended serving is consumption once per day.

Can I take Jungle Shot on my “off” days?

Yes, it is recommended you take Jungle Shot on “off days” to saturate your system in creatine and beta-alanine, which are both shown to provide chronic benefits.

Jungle shot- Experience More

POWER | FOCUS | STAMINA

Jungle Shot includes ingredients that have been demonstrated and published in various research journals for optimized performance both inside and outside of hte gym. Jungle Shot created a formula that allows for “greater output and results in the gym”. They also made it a point to seek and “create something much more”. In fact, Jungle Shot shares how “the gym is only 4% of your day if you exercise an hour each day”. They made it a point to create a formula that coincides with workplace performance, confidence and cognitive abilities. Companies are now allowing for the input of optimum amounts of citrulline malate, however companies are lacking the usage of the proper amount of alpha-gpc which is needed for the enhancement of cognitive ability and focus.

Most “top- end” and popular supplement brands under dose their ingredients, but Jungle Shot does not- in fact, they don’t stop there. You’d think the company self- proclaimed to have created “the best life enhancing supplement on the market” is enough, but it’s not. Jungle Shot created this pre-workout as an “educational experience for all who use it”. You see, they want consumers to not only know the benefits of the ingredients in their product, but understand the “physiology for how the ingredient aids in the function of the body”.

Jungle Shot says “everybody wants to know "what a supplement will do for them" but understanding the "why" is just as critical. [They] desire to bring openness and transparency to helping you understand what Jungle Shot can do for you and why it is so effective” and I hope I have too.
